Choosing eyewear can be a lot of fun, but only if you know what to look for. A good pair of glasses should accentuate your features and make you look great. They should also be comfortable and go with your personality.  Here, we take a look at how to match spectacle frames to your face.

Factors to consider when choosing spectacle frames for yourself

The shape, size and color of the frames you choose depend on a number of factors. These factors are divided into three main categories:

1.    Shape of your face

There are many different shapes of faces and each highlights some part or parts of the face more than the others. Some commonly seen face shapes are:

•    Oval
•    Heart
•    Square
•    Round
•    Diamond
•    Triangle
•    Rectangle

Ideally, a good frame should help to balance out your face so that no one feature stands out more than the others. It should accentuate the parts of your face that are striking and different without taking away from the basic shape of your face.

2.    Coloring

a.    Skin
Skin tones are usually cool or warm. Cool tones usually have undertones of pink or blue, while warmer skin tones have a cream or peach undertone. Olive skin is a mix of the two tones and usually considered cooler.

b.    Hair
Hair is also classified as warm or cool, but with more shades and hues. Golden brown, brown-gold, brown-black, ginger, carrot and gray are all warm shades. Cool hues include platinum blond, strawberry blond, white, auburn and ash brown.

c.    Eyes
Eyes are usually a distant second when it comes to considering them for choosing frames, the main reason being the extremely wide variety of colors. Although they are also classified as warm and cool, the range of eye colors is vast and basing your choice of spectacle frames on eye color can become confusing, especially if your eyes are a unique color.

The color of your frames should match the color of your hair and skin. Warm goes with warm so you can choose from colors like gold, khaki, orange, coral, peach, red and camel. Cool goes with cool, which means you can choose from colors like jade, amber, silver, black, magenta, plum and rose-brown.

3.    Size of your face

If you have a smaller face, the spectacle frames you choose should be smaller too, so that your face looks a little bigger in contrast. A bigger face should be paired with bigger glasses to balance out the size. The shape and color of these frames will depend on the other factors mentioned above.

Keep this guide in mind when choosing your spectacle frames so you can get the right ones for your face shape and coloring.
