Men Choosing Glasses
When it comes to choosing eyeglasses, comfort, durability and style rank high with men. Style is important to them but they don’t want to sacrifice comfort and fit just to look good.
Comfort and Fit
About 88 percent of respondents in a survey indicated that comfort and fit were the most important factors in choosing eyeglass frames. Use the following guidelines to make sure your new eyeglass frames will be comfortable and fit well.
• Make sure the frames are wide enough so that the temples don’t dig into the side of your head. Frame edges should protrude slightly beyond your face.
• Make sure the temples are long enough.
• The curve at the end of the temple should extend over the ear without pressing down on it.
• Check the nose piece for comfort. If the frames don’t have adjustable nose pads, make sure the fit is secure without pinching the bridge of your nose.
• To see how well frames stay in place, move your head up and down and bend over as if picking something up from the floor.
Durability
If you want eyeglasses that are more durable than usual, consider frames made from titanium, stainless steel and flexible materials that will go back into their original shape even after being twisted, bent or crushed.
Lasting Trends in Men’s Eyewear
Older shapes and sizes of men’s eyeglass frames are making a comeback but now they’re influenced by modern developments.
Aviator glasses and double brow-bar styles have resurfaced. These masculine shapes are now made with newer and more durable materials.
Larger and bolder eye sizes and frame shapes are on trend. Just be careful not to go too big if you have a small face.
Rimless and semi-rimless styles are perfect for you if you want a modern or minimalist look. When combined with anti-reflective lenses, these glasses practically disappear. This combination offers lightweight comfort and durability.
Titanium frames are a big draw for men because the metal is very lightweight, non-corrosive and durable, as well as stylish.
Stainless steel and aluminum frames are also popular for their lightweight and durable properties.
For a younger, hip or retro look, many men choose plastic frames. Lightweight and comfortable, these frames come in a wide variety of styles. You can get thin plastics; bold, black 50’s style frames and layers of colored plastics laminated together to create a unique look.
