Sunglasses Are Essential during Winter

Many people think that they don’t need to wear sunglasses during the winter. This can be a dangerous practice. Your eyes need as much protection during the winter as they do during the summer.

The cold is no reason to not wear sunglasses

Even though the sun doesn’t shine down directly much of the time during winter, there are more UV rays around than normal. This is especially true if it snows where you live. Of the UV rays that fall on fresh snow, up to 80% will be reflected.

UV rays can cause problems

Did you know that UV rays can damage the vision and cause problems such as macular degeneration and cataracts? Exposure to UV rays constantly can also cause the skin around the eyes to age and develop wrinkles. So, your best protection against UV rays during winter is a pair of polarized lenses.

Good sunglasses should protect the eyes against intense sunlight. This is especially important during the winter months, when there is a lot of snow around. Also, note that the eyes are more stressed during winter than during any other season, due to fluctuating temperature, cold winds, and of course, UV rays.

A pair of good quality sunglasses will block nearly all the UV rays that will otherwise hit the eyes and also reduce glare, giving you quality vision. So, if you’ve not already invested in sunglasses, this is a good time to go out and buy a pair for the safety of your eyes.
